ISM band

The ISM (Industrial Scientific and Medical) Bands offer license-free spectrum. The most popular applications for these bands are for low-power short range telecommunications between devices, now including very high-speed links.

Over the past few years, the number of modulation schemes targeted at the ISM bands has increased rapidly, primarily due to the IoT as well as Industry 4.0 applications. Some examples being LoRa, Thread, Z-wave etc. All ISM devices must be capable of operation withstanding the interference from other RF producing devices.

Individual countries ISM frequencies and TX powers may differ for some of the bands however all countries either follow the FCC or EU (ETSI) regulatory frameworks. Some bands and regions require listen before talk to be implemented (Check EU regulations etc.) for regulatory standards.
