In industrial environments, data is generated everywhere: from sensors, web thermometers, machines, controllers and measurement systems. The challenge is not only collecting this data, but also storing it reliably and making it available across different network zones.
The 50544 data.station is designed for exactly that purpose. This compact DIN-rail mounted device acts as an FTP(S), SFTP/SCP and Samba server, enabling local data storage and controlled file exchange in industrial and OT environments. It can store data in its internal memory or on a USB storage device connected to the unit.
The data.station makes it possible to collect, archive and access measurement or machine data without the need for a full PC or complex server infrastructure. Devices in the machine network can send data to the data.station via FTP, while users or systems in another network can access the stored data through secure protocols such as SFTP, SCP or SMB.
A key advantage is the presence of two network interfaces. This allows machine data to be collected from one network while making the stored information available to another network, for example by separating the machine network from the OT network. Access rights and paths can be configured individually per interface, supporting a cleaner and more controlled network architecture.
The data.station is especially useful in applications where measurement values, logs or production-related data need to be archived locally and accessed securely. For example, multiple web thermometers or measurement devices can periodically send readings to the data.station, creating a central measurement data archive.
Typical use cases include:
The data.station includes 2x Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, 1x USB 2.0 port, 5 GB internal memory and support for external USB storage devices. It can be powered via Power over Ethernet or through a 24–48 V DC supply, making it flexible for industrial cabinet integration. The device is housed in a compact plastic DIN-rail enclosure and supports web-based management for configuration.
For industrial reliability, the product is designed for office and industrial environments and complies with standards for high noise resistance and low noise emission.
As more machines, sensors and systems become connected, reliable data handling becomes an important part of industrial automation. The W&T data.station offers a practical way to bridge local data collection, secure access and network separation in one compact device.
