Intelligent eFuses for 50–60 A power domains - MaxLinear

MaxLinear has expanded its AI infrastructure portfolio with two 16 V high-current eFuses, the MxL745950 and MxL745951P.

The MxL745950 supports 50 A, has a typical on-resistance of 1 mΩ and comes in a 5 × 5 mm LGA-32 package.

The MxL745951P supports up to 60 A, has an RDS(on) of 0.79 mΩ, and supports PMBus/I²C, telemetry, configurable protection thresholds, non-volatile fault logging and active current balancing.

Description
The MxL745951P is a single-channel current-limited switch that integrates a MOSFET and a controller. It features a low RDS(ON) of 0.79m, and a single device can support continuous currents of up to 60A. It also supports parallel operation for applications requiring higher currents. In parallel applications, all devices can achieve state synchronization and load current balance during start-up and steady-state operation.

The MxL745951P supports output soft-start control and load current limiting during start-up to minimize inrush current when inserting backplanes. It integrates an on-chip temperature sense and a high-precision load current monitor.

The device also features robust protection capabilities, including input voltage under-voltage protection (UVP) and over-voltage protection (OVP), output current over-current protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and MOSFET fault diagnosis protection.

The MxL745951P integrates a PMBus™ interface and provides telemetry for input voltage (VIN), input current (IIN), input energy (EIN), output voltage (VOUT), output current (IOUT), input power (PIN), and output power (POUT). It can also monitor and report fault statuses via the PMBus interface, as well as modify configurations such as warning/fault thresholds and timers.

The MxL745951P is available in a compact 5mm × 4.5mm VQFN-26L package.

MxL745950 | 16V/50A Electronic Fuse

Description
The MxL745950 is a single-channel current-limited power switch that integrates a MOSFET and a controller. It features a low RDS(ON) of 1m, and a single device can support continuous currents of up to 50A. It also supports parallel operation for applications requiring higher currents.

The MxL745950 can limit the high inrush current generated during hot-plug scenarios, preventing significant voltage drops on the power bus. It also provides high-precision over-current protection (OCP), ensuring effective circuit protection.

The MxL745950 supports a programmable soft-start time and includes a current mirror function for accurate current reporting. It also features a temperature monitoring function, eliminating the need for an external temperature-detection circuit. Additionally, the device provides fault indication,
allowing clear visibility into its operational status.

The MxL745950 features robust protection capabilities, including under-voltage protection (UVP), over-voltage protection (OVP), OCP, short-circuit current limiting, MOSFET fault diagnosis protection, over-temperature protection (OTP), and 3.3V LDO current-limit protection.
